A Four-Star Admiral Stopped A Graduation To Salute A Homeless Man At The Back Of The Plaza. Before Sunset The Academy Learned Why His Name Had Been Erased For Twenty-Four Years
A work of fiction. The characters and events are invented; any resemblance to real people is coincidental.
Seaview Naval Academy was halfway through commissioning its graduating class when a four-star admiral walked off the dais, crossed the plaza between the rows of families, stopped in front of a man in a weather-ruined jacket and split boots, and saluted him. The plaza went silent. The man took off his cap. And the newest ensign on that stage, holding a commissioning folder he was about to drop, recognised the eyes of a father who had been declared lost at sea when he was six years old.
